Some accounting firms already use Adobe Acrobat every day. They edit PDFs, bind tax returns, manage cover sheets — Acrobat is part of the muscle memory. So when it comes to e-signatures, the obvious question for those firms is: do we just use Adobe Acrobat Sign? Or is DocuSign or Annature still the better pick? And what about Admiin (https://www.admiin.com), the free Australian option?
This is the comparison for firms already in the Adobe ecosystem (or considering moving to it). All four tools are real, mature, ISO-certified e-signature platforms. The question is which one fits an Australian accounting workflow best.
The 30-second version
Adobe Acrobat Sign is the "we already pay Adobe" option. Tight Acrobat integration. Affordable when bundled.
DocuSign is the global standard. Most expensive, most features.
Annature is the AU-built specialist. AU data, AU support, deep integrations with the AU accounting stack.
Admiin is the free Australian option that wraps signing inside a full per-lodgement workflow — cover letters, AML, payments and lodgement included. Core free; optional white-label $800/month.
For most Australian accounting firms, Annature is the best pure-play e-sig tool and Admiin is the best workflow tool. Adobe Sign is a credible alternative only if your firm already pays for Acrobat Pro. DocuSign struggles to justify its cost.

Adobe Acrobat Sign: the "we already have it" option
Adobe Acrobat Sign comes bundled with most Adobe Acrobat Pro subscriptions. If your firm pays for Acrobat already — for PDF editing, document binding, form fields, OCR — then e-signing is essentially "free" or near-free at the entry tier.
Pricing in AU (mid-2026):
Acrobat Standard (individual): ~AU$15-20/month
Acrobat Pro (individual): ~AU$23/month
Acrobat Pro for Teams: ~AU$30/user/month annual, with 150 transactions per user per year cap
The transaction cap is the catch. If your firm sends more than ~12 documents per month per user, you'll hit the limit.
Where Adobe Sign shines
Bundled with Acrobat if you already pay for it
Full PDF editing in the same tool
Microsoft 365 integration
Strong API
Form fields and document preparation
Where Adobe Sign falls short
Transaction caps
Less AU accounting-specific integration
No AU data sovereignty by default
No workflow around signing — cover letters, AML, payments, lodgement happen elsewhere
DocuSign: the global standard
We covered DocuSign in detail in our DocuSign vs Annature vs FuseSign vs Admiin comparison. Short version:
Where DocuSign shines
Mature, deep feature set
IAM for contract lifecycle
Global brand recognition
Where DocuSign falls short for AU accountants
Cost (highest of the four for most volumes)
Envelope caps and add-on fees
Less AU-specific integration depth
No workflow around signing
Annature: the AU specialist
Where Annature shines
Pay-as-you-go or custom subscriptions
AU data sovereignty (AWS Sydney)
Deep AU accounting integrations
CA ANZ 20% member discount
Qantas Points kicker
Local support team
Where Annature falls short
Smaller global brand
No PDF editing
No workflow around signing
Admiin: the free option that does more than sign
Admiin (https://www.admiin.com) takes a different approach. Yes, it includes e-signatures — built in, mobile-first, ISO-aligned. But it doesn't stop at signing. It wraps signing inside the full per-lodgement workflow:
AI cover letters drafted automatically
Tax bindings combining return + supporting docs
E-signing mobile-first
AML/CTF integrated (AUSTRAC Tranche 2)
Payment to firm (your invoice)
Payment to ATO with full reward points to the client (vs the reduced rate paying ATO direct)
Lodgement to the ATO
Confirmation to client and firm
The core platform is free. No per-user fees, no envelope caps, no transaction fees on top of standard card surcharges. An optional white-label tier at $800/month gives firms a fully custom-branded client experience with all emails and notifications sent from the firm's own email domain.
Where Admiin shines
Free (genuinely)
AI cover letters
AML/CTF built in
ATO payment with full reward points (unique)
Lodgement included
AU-built and AU data
Optional full white-label
Where Admiin doesn't compete
Not a PDF editor. Adobe Acrobat is still better for document editing, form-building, OCR.
Not a general e-sig tool. For NDAs, employment contracts, non-accounting agreements, Annature is more flexible.
Newer brand than DocuSign.
Cost comparison: a worked example
A 5-person Australian accounting firm sending 100 envelopes per month (1,200/year):
Adobe Acrobat Sign (Teams): 5 × AU$30/month = AU$1,800/year. But 150 transactions/user/year cap = 750 total. Firm hits cap in month 8 and pays per-transaction thereafter. Real total ~$2,500–3,000/year.
DocuSign Business Pro: 5 × ~AU$40/month = AU$2,400/year. 100 envelopes/user/year = 500 total. Cap hit in month 5. Real total ~$4,500–6,000/year.
Annature Customised: likely AU$800–$1,500/year all-in. With CA ANZ 20% discount, lower.
Admiin: AU$0/year for the core platform. AU$9,600/year if you choose the white-label tier.
Annature is the cheapest pure-play e-sig option for paid tools. Admiin is free and includes cover letters, AML, payments and lodgement on top of signing.
Why pay for an e-sig tool that only signs?
Adobe, DocuSign and Annature charge for signing. Admiin includes signing for free — plus cover letters, AML, payments and lodgement. Optional $800/month white-label tier for full custom branding. Start free → https://www.admiin.com
Which one should your firm pick?
Pick Adobe Acrobat Sign if:
You already pay for Adobe Acrobat Pro for PDF editing
Your signing volume is genuinely low (under 10 per user per month)
Your firm lives in Microsoft 365
Pick DocuSign if:
You operate internationally and need global brand
You need IAM (Intelligent Agreement Management) features
Budget isn't a constraint
Pick Annature if:
You want a pure-play e-sig tool for standalone signing
Cost matters
You're a CA ANZ member (20% discount)
You need broad professional services integrations
Pick Admiin if:
You're an Australian tax & compliance firm
You want signing plus cover letters, AML, payments and lodgement
You want to start free
You want to offer clients full reward points on ATO payments
You want optional white-label branding
Most firms run Admiin for tax & compliance workflows (free), plus one of the others for standalone signing if needed.
A note on PDF editing
The one thing Annature, DocuSign and Admiin don't include that Adobe does is PDF editing. Combining returns, redacting text, building form fields — that's Adobe's heritage.
But most Australian accounting firms have other tools doing this work — built into their PMS, their DMS (FYI's document automation), or their execution layer (Admiin automates the binding step). The "we need Adobe for PDFs too" argument is weaker than it used to be.
Where all four tools shake out
E-signature tools — Adobe, DocuSign, Annature — handle one step of the per-lodgement workflow. The full client-facing flow:
Return finishes in PMS
Cover letter is drafted — manual for A/D/Ann; AI for Admiin
Documents bound — manual or in Acrobat; automatic in Admiin
Document goes for signing — all four
AML/CTF check — separate tool for A/D; partial in Annature; built into Admiin
Client signs
Client pays firm — Stripe/FeeSynergy for A/D/Ann; built into Admiin
Client pays ATO — BPAY/direct for A/D/Ann; built into Admiin with full reward points
Return lodged
Confirmation to client
Signed pack files back
Adobe Sign handles 3, 4, 6. DocuSign handles 4, 6. Annature handles 4, 6 (plus partial 5). Admiin handles 2 through 11.
FAQs
Is Adobe Sign legally valid in Australia?
Yes. All four tools comply with the Electronic Transactions Act 1999 (Cth).
Can I export signed documents from Adobe Sign to my DMS?
Yes — Adobe Sign integrates with SharePoint, OneDrive. For AU-specific DMS like FYI, integration is less direct.
Does Adobe Sign include identity verification?
Limited. Adobe Sign has basic recipient authentication. For full KYC / TPB-compliant ID verification, Annature is more complete. Admiin has the most complete AML/CTF for AUSTRAC Tranche 2.
What about DocuSign IAM?
DocuSign's Intelligent Agreement Management is a step beyond simple e-signing — contract lifecycle with AI. For accounting firms, it's usually overkill.
Can I use Adobe Sign and Admiin at the same time?
Yes. Many firms do Adobe for internal documents and complex form-building, Admiin for client-facing tax & compliance workflows.
What's the cheapest option for a sole practitioner sending ~20 envelopes/month?
Adobe Acrobat Pro at ~AU$23/month if you also need PDF editing. Annature PAYG if you don't. Admiin is free regardless of volume.
What about FuseSign?
See our FuseSign vs Annature vs Admiin comparison.
What does Admiin cost?
Free core platform. Optional white-label tier at $800/month for full custom branding — emails and notifications sent from your firm's own email domain.
The bottom line
For Australian accounting firms:
Annature is the best pure-play e-sig tool — cheapest, most AU-aligned
Adobe Acrobat Sign is the credible alternative if you already pay for Acrobat
DocuSign is increasingly hard to justify on cost
Admiin is the free workflow tool that wraps signing inside cover letters, AML, payments and lodgement
For most firms doing meaningful tax & compliance work, the answer is Admiin (free, full workflow) plus a pure-play e-sig for non-accounting signing if needed.
